Nicholas Barlow is a curator living in Los Angeles. His work focuses on modern and contemporary photography, time-based media, and film. He is currently an assistant curator at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Recent projects include Director’s Inspiration: Bong Joon Ho (2025), Cyberpunk: Envisioning Possible Futures Through Cinema (2024), and Inventing Worlds and Characters: Animation and Effects (2024). In his previous position as a curatorial assistant at the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, he served as lead curator on Cruel Youth Diary: Chinese Photography and Video from the Haudenschild Collection (2023) and assisted with the exhibitions Tishan Hsu: Liquid Circuit (2020), Paul McCarthy: Head Space, Drawings 1963–2019 (2020), and Lifes (2022). From 2015 to 2019, he was a curatorial assistant at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, where he helped organize exhibitions focusing on art and film, including Guillermo del Toro: At Home with Monsters (2016) and 3D: Double Vision (2018).
